✿ Hidden El Dorado in deep Kyoto
Yusuke started designing kimonos when he was 18 years old. He was born into a legendary family of artisans using the gold glazing kinsai Yuzen dyeing techniques in Kyoto. Since he was the third son, he did not originally plan to be involved in this family art tradition, which usually comes down from father only to the first son. When his father suggested to Yusuke that he join him in his work, Yusuke was a little puzzled, but eventually decided to carry on the long history. Kinsai is the last step of kimono production, which has more than 10 steps in its process. This final work is as if the departure liqueur is added in the best bottle of champagne. Gold is carefully provided dramatically on the kimono textile to create its perfect beauty. It is very delicate and time-consuming work to do. Yusuke is working as a kimono designer, as well as a lecturer teaching the basics of kinsai to university students and visitors to Kyoto, to keep up the tradition of Kyo Yuzen. When you visit Kyoto, you can try to make a coaster or tablecloth by using this kinsai technique with Yusuke’s kind guidance. It is amazing to see how the simple cloth will become gorgeous with patterns of gold. Yusuke is also a good conversationalist to entertain you and let you know about the real Kyoto culture.
Kinsai is not the only feature of interest when you visit Motohashi’s place. Is your skin keeping the best condition? Wouldn’t you like to try Kyoto traditional style beauty treatments using pure gold? The condition of your skin usually reflects who you are and how busy you might be. Yes, your skin also needs a special holiday!
When you meet Keiko, Yusuke’s partner, you will surely understand that she is the right person to entrust with the care of your skin. Keiko has been working as a specialist for more than 30 years. The secret to Keiko’s beauty treatment is the Zen way of her gentle approach to making you relaxed from the bottom of your heart. Believe me, you will be satisfied when taking time for it while your husband is making your coaster with Yusuke! The ultimate treatment which Keiko can provide for your skin is the same as that for a maiko, an apprentice geisha (or geiko, more properly). If it goes well, you might decide to stay in Kyoto and start your new career in Gion as a result! Keiko takes care of not only your skin but your mind with her professionalism. Please spare time for this luxurious experience in Kyoto.
Yusuke & Keiko are awaiting your visit with welcoming smiles near the ancient Ryoan-ji temple.
